Three Cyclone harriers earn medals at AL Invite

HCHS girls place 7th, boys 8th

COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Greichaly Kaster, Reagan Hansen and Drew Voge each secured individual medals Saturday morning as the Harlan Community girls placed seventh out of 10 teams and the boys finished eighth out of 11 at the Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln Cross Country Invitational.
Due to new construction on the campus of Iowa Western Community College, the cross country course was modified from previous years and much flatter overall, resulting in fast times. Reagan Anderson of Denison-Schleswig won the girls’ five-kilometer race in 19 minutes, 39 seconds while Thomas Jefferson’s McGwire Midkiff was the individual boys champion in 16:52.
For the second straight meet, Kaster paced both Cyclone squads by placing fifth in 20:27 - an improvement of 43 seconds on her third-place time at Glenwood.
Hansen placed seventh in 17:35 to lead the Cyclone boys while Voge took 14th in 18:15, both improving by about 30 seconds from the season opener.
Kaster and Hansen both scored Harlan’s highest state meet finishes last fall and have picked up where they left off so far in 2016.
