Strong Wolves’ rally falls just short vs. Cardinals
GRISWOLD -- Rallying back from the brink of a three-set sweep, IKM-Manning was just eight points away from a remarkable comeback win over Treynor in the semifinals of the Western Iowa Conference Tournament.
But like so often happens in the sport of volleyball, when momentum shifts on a dime it can be like the events of the previous half-hour never even took place.
Such was the case in Griswold Tuesday night as Treynor - down 7-3 - finished the fifth set with an impressive 12-2 run to outlast the Wolves in a thriller, 25-9, 25-20, 23-25, 18-25, 15-9.
The 11th-ranked (Class 2-A) Cardinals (23-4) topped IKM-M for the second time this season and advanced to face 5th-ranked Tri-Center (29-1) in Thursday night’s WIC Tournament title match back in Griswold. The Wolves (17-8) took on 10th-ranked (1-A) Audubon (23-6) in the third-place match at 6:30.
