Sternberg ties 3-point school record

During a double overtime loss Jan. 5, Vikings Junior Luke Sternberg tied a school record for nine 3-point shots during a game, matching himself with 2022 graduate Raydden Grobe.
"I didn't know until someone told me after the game," Sternberg said. "I originally thought it was 11, but I was told I tied it. But very grateful that I could have the green light to shoot that many."
The Vikings have struggled this year going 3-9 in their first 12, but Sternberg still credited his teammates for allowing him to have the success he's had.
"Of course all my guys from this year's team," he said. "I've had some pretty good role models and mentors from years past, like Cole [Scheffler], Braydon [Lund], and Kyle [Sternberg], and even Raydden. I'm grateful for them."
G.G. Harris, the current head coach of the Vikings is someone who Sternberg looks up to and credits for his success, both on and off the court.
"Coach Harris means a lot to me," he added. "We've had so many talks and discussions over the years, and we're very close and comfortable around each other. He's been a big part of my growth and development, not only as a player, but as a person."
Sternberg gave credit to his family, including his brother, Kyle, who currently attends Buena Vista University in Storm Lake.
"He [Kyle] was pretty proud of me, because Kyle's a better basketball player than I ever was, and I just always wanted to make him proud. My parents [Matt & Janae] have always supported me this whole way, so I'm grateful for them, and all my other family members and friends that have helped me along the way."
With a long season ahead still, Sternberg is confident in this teams ability to get their season turned around and make sure they can hit the ground running when playoff basketball rolls around.
"Obviously, it's not been what we wanted so far," Sternberg said. "We're pretty young, but I feel confident in us turning the ship around, and get things headed in the right direction."
