Spartans clinch playoff spot with win at CR-B
COON RAPIDS (Oct. 15) -- Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton took care of business on its end and received the help it needed last Friday night, qualifying for the Eight-Player football playoffs with a 52-15 win at Coon Rapids-Bayard.
The Spartans finished the regular season at 5-3 overall and 3-3 in District 10, clinching a third-place playoff spot based on its head-to-head win over Boyer Valley the previous week. The Bulldogs fell to 3-3 in District 10 following Friday’s 74-6 home loss to top-ranked CAM.
Next up for Exira-EHK is a first round playoff game at fourth-ranked Remsen St. Mary’s (8-0) on Friday, Oct. 22, at 7:00 p.m.
Spartan junior quarterback Trey Petersen had another big game against CR-B (3-5, 1-5), passing for 181 yards and four touchdowns (no interceptions) while rushing for 142 yards and three TDs on 25 carries. Tyler Kingery led Exira-EHK with six receptions for 59 yards and also carried the ball six times for 71 yards. Aiden Flathers, Cash Emgarten, Easton Nelson and Alex Hansen each had a touchdown catch.
On the defensive side of the ball, Nelson led the Spartans with seven total tackles, including four tackles for loss and two sacks. Braxton Marxen had 6.5 tackles (3 TFL, 1.5 sacks) and also recovered a fumble.
