Spartan boys take down CAM

 ELK HORN (Jan. 7) -- Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton handed the CAM boys basketball team its first loss of the season last Tuesday night, winning 58-48 in a Rolling Valley Conference battle in Elk Horn.
 The Spartans (5-3 overall, 4-3 RVC) outscored the Cougars 16-7 in the second quarter to take a 28-19 halftime lead and were able to hold on for the victory as Tyler Petersen and Creighton Nelson led the way with 20 points each. CAM, which had entered last week’s Class 1A state rankings, fell to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the RVC.
 Petersen knocked down 3-of-6 three-pointers and made 7-of-8 free throws for the Spartans, also finishing with seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Nelson made 8-of-10 field goals as part of his 20-point night, adding six rebounds and two assists.
 Additional scorers for Exira-EHK included Hunter Andersen with eight points, six boards and five assists, Easton Nelson with six points, five rebounds and two steals and Trey Petersen’s four points, two assists and two steals.
