Softball: Monarchs, Titans beat Cyclones

 COUNCIL BLUFFS -- The Harlan Community softball team saw its Hawkeye Ten record fall to 5-8 earlier this week following a pair of five-inning conference losses to Denison-Schleswig and Lewis Central.
 HCHS (8-14 overall) lost a home game vs. the Monarchs, 15-4, on Monday before dropping a 12-2 decision at LC Tuesday night. The Cyclones have now lost five of their last six conference games to slip to seventh place in the league standings.
 Denison improved to 11-10 overall and 5-6 in the H-10 Monday while the first-place Titans improved to 22-4 and 14-2, respectively.
Denison 15, HCHS 4 (5)
 The Monarchs scored early and often at H. Jack Field Monday to earn a split in the season series, totaling 15 hits and taking advantage of nine walks and one hit batter.

CB LC 12, HCHS 2 (5)
 The Cyclones managed just one hit - a Gubbels RBI double - off Titan pitcher Ashtyn Miller, who struck out 11 and walked four in five innings.
