Sears signs letter of intent to Western Illinois

Cyclones’ All-State shortstop honors original commitment to Leathernecks

HARLAN – It was another proud day for a program that has had a lot to feel good about lately.
Harlan Community senior Dillon Sears, already a four-year starter for the state champion Cyclone baseball team, signed a national letter of intent on Wednesday, Nov. 9, to play collegiately at Western Illinois University in Macomb.
The son of Chad and Janelle Sears, Westphalia, becomes the first HCHS baseball player to sign with an NCAA Division I program since 2002 graduate Zach Daeges inked with Creighton.
Cyclone head coach Steve Daeges’ oldest son, Matt, also played at Creighton after starting his career at the University of Nebraska. Coach Daeges has watched a lot of college ball over the years and believes that Sears’ athletic ability and work ethic are suited for the next level.
