Reisz shuts out Atlantic in 7-0 HCHS win

 ATLANTIC (June 24) -- Harlan Community broke open a scoreless tie with six runs in the top of the fifth Thursday night and got a six-inning shutout from Franz Reisz to beat Atlantic 7-0 and sweep the baseball season series.
 The game was called by rain/lightning after just two pitches were thrown in the top of the seventh.
 Reisz (1-3) pitched his best game of the year for the Cyclones, allowing just three hits and one walk, hitting two batters and striking out two. Improved pitch efficiency allowed Reisz to get through six innings on 91 pitches.
 Atlantic starter Garrett McLaren took a shutout into the fifth before HCHS plated six runs off three pitchers in the inning.
 Isaiah Ahrenholtz and Joey Moser had the only Cyclone hits in the fifth, which also featured two errors, three walks and two hit batsmen. Quinn Koesters had two RBI in the inning while Luke Musich, Kelby Lasher, Ben Muenchrath and Moser all drove in one.
 HCHS added one run in the sixth when Musich and Alex Monson both singled, Muenchrath walked and Musich scored on a wild pitch.
 The Cyclones had left the bases loaded in the third and stranded two runners in scoring position an inning later before breaking through in the fifth.
 HCHS played error-free defense behind Reisz and totaled seven singles at the plate. Monson went 2-for-2 and Musich was 2-for-4. Moser drew two walks to go along with his base hit and stole two bases. Cade Sears also had two stolen bases and singled once.
 Gunner Kirchhoff hit a double while Ethan Sturm and Jayden Proehl singled for Atlantic, which lost its seventh straight game and dropped to 7-11 overall and 6-11 in the Hawkeye Ten.
 The Cyclones improved to 8-11 overall and 7-8 in the H-10, moving up to seventh place in the conference.
