Regional Softball: Lady Vikes fall to West Monona 6-1

 ONAWA (July 15) -- For the second straight year, AHSTW’s softball season came to an end at the hands of West Monona.
 The fifth-ranked Spartans (19-1) got a three-hitter from senior pitcher Lexi Lander and used a four-run fourth inning to down the Lady Vikes 6-1 Wednesday night in a Class 2A regional quarterfinal. Last year, West Monona knocked off AHSTW in the semifinals, 14-5.
 Sydney Zimmerman, Grace Porter and Natalie Hagadon all had singles for the Lady Vikes and Paige Osweiler scored the team’s lone run in the fourth inning. Lander issued no walks, hit one batter and struck out 11.
 Senior Madison Thornton and junior Kailey Jones both pitched three innings for AHSTW. Thornton took the loss, allowing two hits, two walks and five runs (all unearned). Jones surrendered three hits and one unearned run. The Lady Vikes committed six errors in the field.
 AHSTW, which finished 10-8, will graduate five seniors off the team in Osweiler, Thornton, Zimmerman, Baylee Meyers and Tristin Heiny.
