Rams deal HCHS first conference defeat, 57-55

GLENWOOD -- Harlan Community scored the first basket of the game and took a brief one-point lead early in the fourth quarter.
Other than that, the third-ranked (3-A) Cyclones played catch-up for 32 minutes Saturday night and ultimately fell two points short in a 57-55 conference defeat at Glenwood.
The unranked Rams, who also picked up a big Hawkeye Ten win at Atlantic Tuesday before losing a non-league game at St. Albert Friday, showed up focused and ready to go against HCHS. They started each half strong and demonstrated poise down the stretch as the Cyclones attempted to erase a seven-point deficit in the final 3:46.
Caleb Rasmussen’s driving bucket made it 55-52 with :18 left, but Glenwood broke the Cyclone press for a Christian Stanislav layup, making Kyle Juhl’s last-second 3-pointer irrelevant.
The outcome forced a three-way tie for first place in the Hawkeye Ten standings between HCHS (7-1), Glenwood (6-1) and Kuemper Catholic (6-1) with only two or three conference games left for each team.
