Powers places 11th at 1A State Golf

 AMES -- IKM-Manning sophomore Kylie Powers shot two solid rounds in last week’s Class 1A Girls State Golf Tournament, placing 11th out of 77 competitors at the Ames Golf and Country Club.
 Powers carded a 90 on Tuesday, June 1, and was 13th at the halfway point of the state meet. She followed up with an 85 on Wednesday, June 2, finishing with a 36-hole total of 175 (33 over par) that left her four strokes out of the top 10.
 Powers was steady on both days of the tournament, shooting nine-hole scores of 48, 42, 44 and 41. She took a 7 on hole number eight both days, but finished every other hole in six strokes or less.
 Lynnville-Sully’s Greenlee Smock was this year’s Class 1A state champion, posting identical rounds of 77 for a first-place total of 154. Edgewood-Colesburg’s Madeline Streicher shot 77 and 79 for second place.
 Bishop Garrigan placed three girls in the top eight and won the 1A team title with a score of 671, putting 74 strokes between themselves and second-place Central Lyon.
