Pair of Vikings to play college baseball

 AVOCA -- Recent AHSTW graduates Sam Porter and Joel Sampson have signed letters of intent to continue their baseball careers at the collegiate level.
 Porter signed to play for Simpson College in Indianola, IA and will major in communications. Sampson will play for Southwestern Community College in Creston, IA and will major in criminal justice.
 Porter and Sampson were both first team All-Western Iowa Conference selections this summer, helping the Viking baseball team finish 5-5 overall.
 Porter, a pitcher and first baseman, went 1-1 on the mound with a 4.63 ERA, striking out 26 batters in 19 and two-thirds innings. At the plate, he batted a team-high .400 (10-for-25) and also led the offense with four doubles, nine RBI and a .485 on-base percentage.
 Sampson, the team’s veteran catcher, batted .310 (.394 OBP) with two doubles, six stolen bases and six runs scored.
