O’Neill’s 256 breaks record as HCHS girls improve to 3-1
HARLAN (Dec. 17) -- The Harlan Community girls bowling team will take a 3-1 record into the holiday break while the boys are 1-3 following recent home meets against Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln and Denison-Schleswig.
The HCHS girls defeated AL by 413 pins on Monday, Dec. 14, winning 2385-1972. The highlight of the dual for the Cyclones was Sydney O’Neill’s school record 256 high game, which followed a 135 and gave her a meet-high 391 series. Also topping 300 for HCHS were Madison Horn (360), Abby Swank (323) and Ania Kaster (304).
The Cyclone girls suffered their first loss of the season on Thursday, Dec. 17, falling to Denison by just 36 pins, 2203-2167. Horn led the team with a two-game series of 361 (170-191) and Swank rolled a 305 (143-162).
The Cyclone boys were defeated by both Abraham Lincoln (2619-2258) and Denison-Schleswig (2585-2296).
Caleb Smith’s 353 (144-209) led the team against AL while Joseph Andersen rolled a 323 (167-156).
Four players topped the 300 mark against Denison, led by Brennon Munch’s 331 series (195-136). Wyatt Powell followed with a 322 (146-176) while Smith (147-162) and Andrew Andersen (162-147) both had a 309.
