Mustangs gallop over Cyclones

The HCHS varsity softball team opened up their season Monday on the road against the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs and lost 10-0.

“DCG has a great program, so we knew it was going to be a challenge right out of the gate,” said HCHS Head Softball Coach Toshia Kasperbauer. “The girls never hung their heads.”

Throughout the game, the Cyclones had just three hits on the night, including two from junior Madison Kjergaard.

“We will learn from our at bats and get better as the season goes on,” Kasperbauer said.

Senior Tianna Kasperbauer pitched 4.1 innings on the night for the Cyclones and struck out three batters. She also gave up 10 runs, eight of which were earned runs.

“She moved her pitches around well, but I think got a little tired toward the end, so she wasn't getting as much spin as she would have liked,” Coach Kasperbauer added. “Her and Kelsi [Hoffman] worked through a couple situations last night, which was good to see.”

Kasperbauer will get the ball for their next match on Wednesday as they will take on the AHSTW Vikings on their field at 7:30 p.m.
