Maguire leads Lo-Ma past Wolves in District 8 battle

 MANNING (Oct. 1) -- The IKM-Manning football team scored three of the last four touchdowns but was unable to overcome a 22-0 first-half deficit in Friday night’s 29-19 home loss to sixth-ranked (Class A) Logan-Magnolia.
 Lo-Ma’s Gavin Maguire was a major impact player in the game, scoring two short touchdown runs and a PAT while rushing for 247 yards on 31 carries and adding 9.5 tackles and an interception on defense.
 The Panthers (5-1 overall) took over sole possession of second place in District 8 with a record of 4-1. The Wolves still control their own destiny for a playoff berth at 3-3 overall and 3-2 in district play.
 Amos Rasmussen had a big game in defeat for IKM-Manning, carrying the ball 29 times for 127 yards and scoring on a one-yard run in the third quarter. Cooper Irlmeier (9-for-29 rushing) and Trey Jasa also added one-yard TD runs for the Wolves, who were outgained 383-257 in total offense.
 IKM-M senior quarterback Nolan Ramsey completed 7-of-14 passes for 100 yards but was intercepted three times - twice by Calvin Wallis and once by Maguire. Eli Dreyer was the top receiving target, catching three balls for 69 yards.
 A key moment occurred late in the first half after the Wolves had pulled within 22-6 with 1:45 remaining. Lo-Ma answered with a quick nine-play, 55-yard drive and went up 29-6 on a Wallis-to-Carter Edney 23-yard TD pass at the 13-second mark.
 Irlmeier led the Wolves with 12.0 total tackles (eight solos, eight assists) while Cooper Perdew had four solo stops and nine assists, including one for a loss. Rasmussen recovered a fumble for the Wolves’ lone takeaway.
