Lemon, Bendorf win titles at Plattsmouth Invite

HCHS wrestlers tie for 2nd out of 17 teams

PLATTSMOUTH, NEB. (Jan. 25) -- Ethan Lemon and Carter Bendorf both won championships and Nathan Henry was a runner-up last Saturday, leading Harlan Community to a tie for second place at the Plattsmouth Wrestling Invitational.
Millard South, ranked first in Nebraska’s large-school Class A and 27th in the nation, claimed six champs and won the 17-team tournament with 280.5 points. HCHS and Grand Island Northwest (No. 4 in Nebraska Class B) both scored 134 points while Blair (128) and Bellevue East (121) rounded out the top five.
“With two of our guys injured and two others wrestling in the JV tourney in Glenwood, we were shorthanded. But our guys wrestled extremely well against tough competition to allow us to tie for second place as a team,” stated HCHS head coach John Murtaugh.
Lemon was a state qualifier at 126 last year before moving up to 132 at the start of his senior season. In his first meet back at 126, Lemon pinned three opponents before beating Ralston’s Michael Mass 7-2 in the finals.
Bendorf pinned all three of his opponents at 170 while Henry was 3-1 with three pins at 195 to place second. Jesse Schwery also went 3-1 (one pin, two majors) and placed third at 220. Luke Freund (113) and Luke Musich (120) both placed fourth for HCHS.
