Lady Vikes blank Treynor, advance to WIC semifinals

 AVOCA (June 29) -- The AHSTW softball team punched its ticket to the Western Iowa Conference Tournament semifinals Tuesday night with a 7-0 win over Treynor.
 The third-seeded Lady Vikes struck early with two runs in the bottom of the first and took control by plating five more runs in the fifth to beat the sixth-seeded Cardinals for the third time this season.
 The quarterfinal win advanced AHSTW to Thursday’s (July 1) semifinal and title game rounds of the WIC Tournament at Underwood. The top-seeded Eagles faced No. 5 Audubon in the first semifinal at 5:00 p.m., followed by the Lady Vikes vs. second-seeded Logan-Magnolia. The winners met for the WIC championship.
 AHSTW and Lo-Ma have split their two regular season matchups so far this year.
 Kailey Jones pitched the first six innings of Tuesday’s shutout win over the Cardinals, allowing four hits and walking none while striking out two. Sienna Christian pitched a scoreless seventh inning with two Ks in relief.
 Offensively, Ally Meyers and Grace Porter both hit a pair of singles for the Lady Vikes while Darian Hansen had a triple and three RBI. Also hitting singles were Jones, Natalie Hagadon and Grayson Gettler. Jones also walked twice and led the team with two runs scored. Meyers had two stolen bases and scored once.
