Lady Vikes beat Wolves, lock up third place in WIC

 IRWIN (June 24) -- AHSTW posted a pair of four-spots in the third and fifth innings Thursday and defeated IKM-Manning 11-1 in the Western Iowa Conference regular season finale for both area teams.
 The Lady Vikes outhit the Wolves 9-4 and won by the 10-run rule in five, improving to 14-11 overall and 11-5 in league play, earning them the number three seed for the WIC Tournament June 29 and July 1. AHSTW was also scheduled to play at Saturday’s Nodaway Valley Tournament, which was rained out.
 IKM-Manning remained winless on the year, falling to 0-17 overall and 0-16 in the WIC.
 AHSTW junior Ally Meyers pitched four innings for the win Thursday, allowing four hits and an unearned run while walking none and striking out eight. Eighth-grader Sienna Christian pitched a hitless inning of relief.
 Offensively, the Lady Vikes’ four-run third included doubles by Rylie Knop and Meyers, Kailey Jones’ opposite field RBI triple and a long two-run homer by Natalie Hagadon.
 Jones later hit a double and went 2-for-4 on the night while Hagadon added a triple and finished 2-for-2 with an intentional walk. Christian also had a two-hit game. Graycen Partlow (one double) and Meyers both scored twice and Meyers had three RBI.
 The Wolves scored their only run in the third when Jessica Christensen reached on an infield single, advanced to second on an overthrow and slid home safely on Ella Richards’ RBI single.
 Lexi Gruhn and Taylor Beckendorf both singled in the second inning for IKM-Manning while Richards and Brooke Booth split the pitching duties.
WIC Tourney:
 The Lady Vikes will host sixth-seeded Treynor in Tuesday night’s quarterfinal round of the WIC Softball Tournament at 7:00 p.m. A win would advance them to Thursday’s semifinals and championship round held at Underwood.
 The No. 9 Wolves and No. 8 Tri-Center will play in a first round game at Underwood starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will then face the top-seeded Eagles.
