Kenkel signs LOI to go trap shoot for Iowa Central CC

Josh Kenkel, a graduate of HCHS signed a letter of intent to go trap shoot for Iowa Central Community College.

“Trap shooting has been a big part of my life and being able to continue my trap shooting journey is something I am really looking forward to,” Kenkel said. “I am excited to see what comes forth in the future with my much appreciated opportunity to be a part of the Iowa Central trap shooting team.”

Kenkel developed a passion for the sport at a young age and has continued with it ever since.

“My trap shooting career started in 7th grade,” he said. “What drew me to this sport is just curiosity and wanting to try something new.”

While Kenkel has met his new trap shooting coach Terry Coleman, he will miss the relationships he’s made with his high school coaches, Leland Kaufman and Jason Paulsen.

“Leland Kaufman has been a great coach,” he added. “Jason is a great person who is very reliable and has brought in some additional technology which has enhanced the overall program. I have met with Coach Coleman. He is a great person and coach.”

Kenkel has acknowledged lessons he’s learned from high school trap shooting he hopes to bring with him to the college level.

“One lesson that I have learned is to be teachable,” he said. “This has helped me to be successful in trap shooting by taking advice and applying it to my method of shooting.”
