Kaster bags third-place conference medal

HCHS girls finish fifth in Hawkeye Ten; boys seventh

COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Harlan Community sophomore Greichaly Kaster added to a fantastic 2016 season on Thursday afternoon, placing third among a talented group of girls at the Hawkeye Ten Conference Cross Country Meet.
Running the Iowa Western Community College 5K course for the third time this fall, Kaster finished in 19 minutes, 47 seconds, trailing only the Denison-Schleswig tandem of Raegan Andersen (19:16) and Ellie Mendlik (19:36).
The HCHS girls placed fifth as a team with a score of 141 while the boys finished seventh at 209. Both Cyclone squads were competing without one varsity regular as Alana Ploen and Reagan Hansen did not run.
Due to a rainout one week earlier, the Cyclones were taking part in their first meet in 16 days, but the layoff did not seem to affect Kaster’s race aggressiveness or endurance as she improved three places on last year’s conference meet finish.
