Kasperbauer stands alone; makes history

Teagon Kasperbauer, a senior at Harlan Community High School and stellar quarterback has made history for Harlan’s football program.

Last Friday, when the Cyclones were on the road in a match against the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors, Kasperbauer threw for 186 yards and surpassed Joel Osborn’s record of 6,382 passing yards, giving him sole possession of first place.

“I actually wasn’t quite aware of the record going into the game,” Kasperbauer said. “On the way home after the game, I got a text from a buddy on the bus telling me that I broke it. Being able to break this record and being up there with Joel Osborn is pretty amazing, especially with Harlan football being such a great program across the state.”

Osborn credited Kasperbauer for passing him and praised the quarterback for his efforts along the way.

“First off, congratulations to Teagon and the team for all their success,” Osborn said. “He’s always first class, how he’s handled himself, his teammates genuinely like him. He’s a really good leader and he’s a winner.”

With more games to play in the season, Kasperbauer could break another record of Osborn’s as he’s currently tied with him in career passing touchdowns with 76. But Kasperbauer has bigger goals as his team attempts to chase down another state championship.

“That’s not the main focus right now,” he said. “Just winning games and doing what we need to do is top priority.”

This season, Kasperbauer has already thrown for 522 yards and gone for seven touchdowns, including two during the team’s most recent game against the Warriors.

With football being a team sport, these accomplishments don’t happen without talent around you. Kasperbauer knows that and was quick to credit his teammates around him.

“During my sophomore year, we had a great group of seniors in front of me, so they were helping me out along the way, making things a lot easier,” Kasperbauer added. “None of my success would come without them. They did a lot for me.”

Todd Bladt, the current head coach of the Cyclones, is someone that Kasperbauer has also credited along the way during his high school career.

“He’s been around the game a long time,” Kasperbauer said. “He knows what it’s like to win a state championship and knows what it takes. He’s a great example of what hard work is and helps us work hard every single day to pursue what we need.”

Harlan will be in action on Friday night at home as they prepare to take on the 2-1 Glenwood Rams.
