Jayhawks’ Kardell playing at Iowa State Saturday

AMES (Oct. 2) -- Saturday’s Kansas at Iowa State football game will include a Jayhawk player with local ties in redshirt freshman Trevor Kardell.
Kardell, number 45 on the Kansas roster, is a 6-foot-5, 234-pound tight end from Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Trevor is the son of Kevin and Jill Kardell and the grandson of Harlan resident Faye Jacobsen and the late Ron Jacobsen as well as Rita Armstrong and the late George Armstrong from Kansas City, Missouri. Trevor’s step-grandfather is Porter Hovey of Kansas City.
Trevor’s dad, Kevin, graduated from Harlan Community High School in 1987. The Kardells still have many Shelby County relatives and friends who will be watching or attending Saturday’s game.
Kardell, who also plays on the KU baseball team, was a three-star football recruit out of Lee’s Summit West High School and was rated the No. 21 tight end in the state of Missouri by 247 Sports in 2020. He finished his prep career with 1,944 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns. As a baseball catcher, Kardell was named second team All-State in 2019 by the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association. He played on the Kansas City Royals scout team for four years, along with his younger brother, Reece, who was on the team for three years.
