IKM-Manning girls lose opener at Treynor

TREYNOR (Dec. 1) -- A cold shooting night hampered the IKM-Manning girls basketball team Tuesday night in a 52-39 loss at Treynor. The 10th-ranked (2A) Wolves were playing their first game of the season while the Cardinals (2-1, 1-0 Western Iowa Conference) were playing for the second straight night and the third time overall.
IKM-Manning trailed 21-18 at halftime, then was outscored 17-10 in the third quarter and couldn’t mount a rally against Treynor’s tough 2-3 zone defense. The Wolves shot 24.5 percent overall (12-of-49) and made only 2-of-10 three-pointers.
Senior Alexa Ahrenholtz made 9-of-10 free throws and scored a game-high 22 points for the Wolves, adding three steals and seven rebounds. Bianca Cadwell tallied nine points and eight boards, Taylor Ferneding had five points and six rebounds and Nevaeh Boland had three points and six caroms.
Sophomore Clara Teigland hit three treys and paced the Cardinals with 16 points while senior Alyssa Kellar filled up the stat page with 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists and eight steals.
