IGCA names Grubbs first team all-stater

Jones, Emgarten, Cheek also recognized

 DES MOINES -- The Iowa Girls Coaches Association has named four area student-athletes to its 2021 All-State Girls Basketball teams.
 Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton sophomore guard Quinn Grubbs was selected as a Class 1A first-teamer and Spartan junior forward Macy Emgarten made the 1A third team. Grubbs (16.2) and Emgarten (17.2) combined to average 33.4 points per game and helped lead Exira-EHK to the 1A state tournament semifinals with a 24-1 final record. Emgarten also averaged 8.6 rebounds per game and led the team with 59 made three-pointers, surpassing 1,000 career points during the postseason. Grubbs added a team-high 85 steals and 82 assists.
 AHSTW senior forward Kailey Jones was named second team All-State in Class 2A, helping the Lady Vikes to a 17-7 overall record. Jones led 2A in total rebounds for the second straight year with 309 (12.9 per game) while averaging 18.3 points and shooting 84 percent at the free throw line. She finished her career with 1,008 points and a school-record 785 rebounds.
 Harlan Community senior guard Jocelyn Cheek was named third team All-State in Class 4A as a key contributor to the Cyclones’ 17-6 overall record and first trip to the state tournament since 2016. Cheek tied a single-game school record by making 9-of-12 three-pointers against Creston and finished the year with 58 made threes (second in 4A) while averaging 10.1 points per game. She also tied for the team lead with 37 steals.
