HCS Special Olympics athletes compete in IWCC regional event

 COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Thirty Harlan Community Schools Special Olympics athletes participated Tuesday, January 7, at Iowa Western Community College in regional competition for basketball skills and cheerleading. The event was held at the IWCC Reiver Arena.
 All three cheerleading teams from Harlan Community have advanced to state March 13-14 in Iowa City. Those teams are as follows.
 Harlan Elementary Whirlwinds - Carmela Garcia, Makiah Schumacher, Clover Croghan, Anna Gross. Unified Partners were Evalyn Cote and Lidea Garside.
 Harlan Middle School Cyclone Squad - Kaia Sanderfer, Katherine Schwery, Samantha Scott, Meagan Scott. Absent that day but performing at State were Unified Partners Jadyn Meek and Bailey Rowedder.
 Harlan Community High School Cheer - Chloe Hays, Billy Joe Harvey, Alyzabeth Cuevas-Reyes, Jennifer Crosley, Tristan Harvey (in Cyclone mascot costume). Unified Partners were Regan Kramer and Kadense Bradley.
 Harlan Community had one basketball skills participant make it to state this year in Tony Sparandeo; however, there were other strong contenders. Results are as follows.
 High School - Jason Hansen (tied for 2nd), Cameron Hicks (tied for 2nd), Chris Smith (2nd). Tony Sparandeo (1st).
 Middle School - Zain Garside (2nd), Darrin Kidd (3rd), Christian Waldemer (6th).
 Elementary - Orion Dillan (5th), Anthony Emmons (1st), TJ Fields (2nd), Braylyn Miller (4th), Rylan Polley (4th), Eden Raymond (1st).
