HCHS Track and Field competes strong at Denison

On Thursday, the HCHS boys varsity track and field team competed in the State Qualifying Meet at Denison High School in the heat and humidity.

“I thought our boys competed admirably at the State Qualifying Meet,” said HCHS Head Track and Field Coach Sam Brummer.

The Cyclones had a scary moment when one of their own went down during the 100m dash and had to sit out the remainder of the meet.

“With Aidan Hall going down in the 100 that threw a wrench in the plans but our kids, as they always seem to do, responded well,” he said. “Life isn't fair and ones choices can affect more than oneself were evident this week.”

With this meet behind them, the team will turn their attention to the State Championship at Drake on Thursday. Junior Gunner Schmitz and Senior Jameson Bieker will compete in the 3A Boys Discus.

“All our events will be on Thursday with a possibility of running on Saturday,” he added. “I am very proud of this team and how they have stuck together as a unit to do what is best for the team.”
