HCHS girls contribute to CB Swim Team’s dual win
COUNCIL BLUFFS (Oct. 6) -- Competing in just its third dual meet of the season and fourth competition overall, the CB Swim Team defeated Atlantic 104-51 here Tuesday at the Kirn Junior High Pool.
The CB Swim Team, also known as Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, consists of swimmers from Council Bluffs AL, Thomas Jefferson, Harlan Community, Woodbine and Underwood.
HCHS has three girls on the team in senior Aubri Smith and sophomores Elaina Vrchoticky and Aurora Miller. The Lynx are coached by HCHS alum Logan Maxwell.
The CB Swim Team won six out of 11 events Tuesday and improved its dual record to 1-2.
Four of the first-place finishes involved at least one swimmer from HCHS, including wins in the 50 and 100-meter freestyle events by Vrchoticky, who clocked personal-best times of 30.92 and 1:07.57, respectively.
Vrchoticky and Miller swam the final two legs of the first-place 200 medley relay (2:25.27) and Smith led off the winning 400 freestyle relay (4:54.34) with a personal-best split. Miller and Vrchoticky also competed on the second-place 200 freestyle relay (2:05.49) and Smith anchored the second-place 200 medley relay (2:36.67).
Additional results for the HCHS swimmers were as follows. 50 Freestyle: Miller 3rd, 31.48; Smith 4th, 31.84 (PB); 100 Freestyle: Smith 2nd, 1:12.09; 100 Breaststroke: Miller 2nd, 1:31.77.
