HCHS bowlers sweep Creston

 HARLAN (Jan. 9) -- The Harlan Community bowling teams both picked up a decisive conference win vs. Creston Thursday at Cyclone Lanes, improving to 1-2 against Hawkeye Ten opposition.
 Led by Madison Horn’s team-high 405 two-game set (194 and 211), the HCHS girls (4-2 overall) won by 445 pins over the Panthers, 2,285 to 1,840. Jayden Gessert and Ania Kaster also rolled a 300-plus series for the Cyclones with scores of 336 and 317, respectively.
 The HCHS boys (3-3 overall) won by a final pin count of 2,301 to 2,035, pulling away with a 168-pin advantage in the Baker games round. Jake Dotzler led the Cyclones with a two-game set of 323 (147-176), followed by Samuel Andersen with a 305 and Darren Stein’s 299. Eli Hartman paced Creston with a 340.

Cyclones roll solid scores at Thunderbowl

 COUNCIL BLUFFS (Jan. 6) -- The Harlan Community girls picked up two wins and the boys earned a split in last Monday’s bowling meet vs. Abraham Lincoln and Sioux City North at Thunderbowl.
 The Cyclone girls knocked down 2,340 total pins to beat the Lynx (2,023) and the Stars (1,984). Ania Kaster rolled games of 164 and 202 to lead the team with a 366 series, followed by Sydney O’Neill with 317 (148-169), Jayden Gessert 292 (154-138), Abby Swank 289 (133-156), Samantha Funke 250 (141-109) and Madison Horn 227 (101-126).
 The Cyclone boys finished with a team total of 2,732, falling just 26 pins short of A.L. (2,758) and scoring well ahead of North’s 2,312. Harlan’s top bowlers included: Jake Dotzler 442 (195-247), Samuel Andersen 425 (183-242), Brennon Munch 381 (181-200), Darren Stein 328 (157-171), William Funke 289 (145-144) and Andrew Andersen 288 (148-140).
