HCHS bowlers sweep Clarinda with season-best totals

Cyclone girls improve to 10-1; Munch, O’Neill post top scores

 HARLAN (Jan. 28) -- The Harlan Community boys and girls bowling teams each rolled their top grand totals of the season last Thursday to sweep a Senior Night dual vs. Clarinda at Cyclone Lanes.
 The HCHS boys surpassed their previous season-best score by 164 pins, improving to 4-7 overall with a 2,530-2,371 victory. All six Cyclone bowlers rolled a two-game series of 300 or better, led by senior Brennon Munch’s 379 (200-179). Braydon Ernst added a consistent 361 (180-181) and Andrew Andersen had a 333 (162-171).
 The HCHS girls improved to 10-1 overall and handed the 7-1 Cardinals their first defeat by a final of 2,423-2,247. Sydney O’Neill paced a quartet of Cyclone girls in the 300-series range with a solid 360 (175-185). Lily Hegarty rolled a pair of 160 games for a 320, followed by Madison Horn’s 314 and a 306 by Macey Bendorf.
 In each dual, the Cyclones finished between 57 and 102 pins better than Clarinda in both the individual rounds and the Baker games.
 The following six HCHS seniors were recognized during the meet along with their parents: Jonathan Ayers, Brennon Munch, Austin Phipps, Griffin Schleimer, Macey Bendorf and Abby Swank.
 The Cyclone bowlers returned to action Monday, Feb. 8 for a home dual against Red Oak. They will travel to Council Bluffs on Tuesday, Feb. 9 for a meet against Lewis Central and St. Albert at Thunderbowl.
