Harlan Swim Club competes well at State Meet

 PERRY -- The Harlan Swim Club completed the 2020-21 season on February 27 at the Greater Iowa Swim League State Meet in Perry.
 The state meet featured two sessions with girls participating in the morning session and the boys swimming in the afternoon. Both teams had their best state finish since the Harlan Swim Club started in 2017. The boys finished fourth overall and girls took seventh overall out of 12 teams.
 Owen Arentson had the Harlan club’s top finish at state, placing first in the 8 & under division of the 50-yard freestyle. The boys team also placed second in six events while the girls team placed second in two events.
 Second-place finishes included: Eli Schmitz (13-14 100 IM); Owen Arentson (8U 50 Breaststroke and 25 Breaststroke); Jameson Arentson (9-10 50 Backstroke); 8U Boys 100 Medley Relay and 100 Freestyle Relay; Ainsley Mages (Girls 11-12 50 Butterfly); and Aubri Smith (Girls Open 100 Freestyle).
 The Harlan Swim Club was a 51-swimmer team this year with swimmers from Harlan, Tri-Center, AHSTW, Logan-Magnolia and surrounding areas. The winter indoor season begins in November with state typically at the end of February or early March.
