Girls soccer season ends on disappointing loss

The HCHS girls varsity soccer team trailed 2-1 at the half, tied the game at two on a goal by senior Raegen Wicks, but unfortunately couldn’t finish the comeback in the second half as they lost 3-2 and ended their season.

“The effort was there,” said HCHS Head Soccer Coach Jared Boysen. “We didn’t quit the whole game. We knew coming into it, it was going to be right there.”

Throughout the season, the Cyclones won 11 games and had a seven game win streak coming into the game against St. Albert, 7-10. Despite an early exit, Boysen highlighted some positives.

“I think it was a team effort,” he said. “We had a lot of senior leadership in Raegen and Claire [Schmitz] and Lexi [Musich] did a great job leading. We had some in each class that stepped up.”

Boysen acknowledged the seniors on his team that just played their final game for HCHS and their efforts.

“When they first started, all of them pretty much have been playing as freshman,” he added. “They’ve meant a lot to the program. They started it off. Their character has been great through all of it.”
