Girls Basketball: Spartans rout Wolves behind Emgarten’s 25

 MANNING (Dec. 14) -- Junior Macy Emgarten led a balanced attack for Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton with 25 points and 13 rebounds as the seventh-ranked (Class 1A) Spartans rolled past the IKM-Manning girls 65-27 in non-conference action here Monday night.
 Exira-EHK (5-0) led 33-16 at halftime, then blew the game open with a 24-7 third quarter.
 Quinn Grubbs totaled 15 points, five rebounds and six steals for the Spartans, Tatum Grubbs had 11 points and five boards and Mollie Rasmussen scored 10. Shay Burmeister added four points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists.
 IKM-Manning, now 1-5, was led by Bianca Cadwell’s 10 points and 10 rebounds. Eight other girls scored three points or less. The Wolves were held to a 27.3 percent shooting night and made only one three-pointer in 13 attempts. They also struggled at the free throw line, shooting 2-for-12.
 IKM-M did outrebound the Spartans 47-35. In addition to Cadwell’s 10 boards, Taylor Ferneding grabbed nine caroms while Nicole Hanson and Alexa Ahrenholtz had six apiece but were held scoreless by Exira-EHK’s tenacious defense.
 The Spartans finished the night with 16 steals.
