Four area players make All-District baseball teams

 AREA -- AHSTW senior Blake Holst and three Harlan Community players - juniors Alex Monson and Joey Moser and senior Isaiah Ahrenholtz - have been named to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association’s 2021 All-District baseball teams.
 Holst (Class 2A) and Monson (Class 3A) are both first-team Southwest District selections while Moser and Ahrenholtz are second-team selections.
 Blake Holst, AHSTW, sr. - Holst was named a first team utility player after leading the Vikings with a .383 batting average, .457 on-base percentage and .533 slugging percentage in 20 games. He was also the team’s top pitcher with a 4-3 record, 3.70 earned run average and 57 strikeouts in 41 and two-thirds innings, allowing 32 hits and 31 walks. When he wasn’t pitching, Holst spent most of his defensive time at shortstop. The left-handed swinger scored 13 runs and drove in 15, accumulating five doubles, two triples, eight walks and seven stolen bases.
Alex Monson, HCHS, jr. - Monson, a first-team utility selection, developed into the Cyclones’ number one pitcher and drew many of the toughest assignments, finishing 4-3 with a team-best 2.61 ERA. In 45.7 innings, he allowed 42 hits, issued only 11 walks, hit five batters and struck out 31. Monson also led the team with a .390 batting average and a .476 slugging percentage while reaching base at a .505 OBP clip. His 32 total hits included three doubles and two triples. He finished with 13 runs scored, 22 RBI, 15 walks and seven steals.
Joey Moser, HCHS, jr. - The Cyclones’ full-time leadoff man was named to the second team at shortstop, providing solid defense and finishing with a slash line of .340/.489/.466. Moser scored a team-high 37 runs and also led the way with 18 stolen bases and two home runs (the team’s only two of the season). He walked 25 times, drove in 21 runs and added five doubles and a triple. He pitched five innings in relief.
Isaiah Ahrenholtz, HCHS, sr. - Ahrenholtz was named a second-team outfielder and gave the Cyclones a steady presence both in the three hole of the lineup as well as in right field. He led the team with a .528 on-base percentage, 28 walks (compared to just 11 strikeouts), nine doubles and 31 RBI. A .364 hitter, Ahrenholtz also scored 31 runs, stole four bases and had a .466 slugging percentage.
