Football: Big second half lifts CR-B past Spartans
EXIRA (Sept. 4) -- Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton took an early 7-0 lead on Trey Petersen’s 65-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Kingery, but Coon Rapids-Bayard gradually took control behind a powerful rushing attack and beat the Spartans 66-19 here Friday night.
Exira-EHK dropped to 0-2 overall (0-2 in 8-Player, District 8) while CR-B improved to 2-0 on the year.
The Spartans hung tough for one half, trailing just 26-19 at the break, before being outscored 40-0 the rest of the way. They lost four fumbles in the contest.
The Crusaders finished with 380 rushing yards, led by Lance Clayburg’s 151 yards and three touchdowns on just 10 carries. Clayburg had a 70-yard rush among his three scores. Chance Andersen added 81 yards and two TDs on eight attempts.
