Fast start carries Lady Vikes past Mo. Valley

MISSOURI VALLEY -- Bolstered by four first-half 3-pointers and solid man-to-man defense, the AHSTW girls basketball team scored the first 10 points of the game en route to an 18-point lead and held off Missouri Valley, 46-40, Friday night to sweep the season series.
Taking their biggest lead at 26-8, the Lady Vikes led 26-10 at halftime and maintained a double-digit edge for most of the second half. Mo. Valley hit five second-half treys, including one at the buzzer, to make the final score a little closer.
AHSTW head coach Tyler Morris was pleased with his team’s fast start, as well as how the girls maintained their composure down the stretch.
“We had a few plays that we’d like to have back, but the thing I keep coming back to is just the confidence,” Morris said. “Confidence stepping up and making shots, handling the ball, being tough and getting rebounds.”
Morris added that “two great practices” leading up to the game seemed to carry over Friday night.
