Exira-EHK baseball wins twice, will face St. Albert in 1A district final
ELK HORN (July 13) -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton baseball team advanced to the district finals Tuesday night with an 11-1 win over Sidney in a Class 1A, District 14 semifinal.
The Spartans (11-13) will now play fourth-ranked St. Albert (30-8) in a the District 14 final Saturday, July 17, in Council Bluffs.
The Falcons have advanced with wins of 15-0 over Essex and 13-2 over Riverside.
Exira-EHK junior Tyler Kingery pitched five innings of two-hit ball against Sidney (two walks, seven strikeouts) and had a single and two runs scored on offense. The Spartans, who plated nine runs in the first inning, scored 11 runs on just four hits. They also drew eight walks and took advantage of a few Cowboy errors. Dane Paulsen had a double and two RBI, Wyatt Fahn had a single and two RBI and Tyler Petersen added a single and one RBI. Exira-EHK stole seven bases as a team.
Exira-EHK 5, East Mills 1
SIDNEY (July 12) -- Senior Tyler Petersen pitched a four-hitter with 15 strikeouts Monday night as the Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton baseball team opened Class 1A district play with a 5-1 victory over East Mills.
The District 14 quarterfinal was pushed back 48 hours due to a rainout on Saturday.
Petersen (3-5) walked two batters in his seven innings on the mound and allowed just one earned run.
Offensively for Exira-EHK, Tyler Petersen, Dane Paulsen and Hunter Andersen all singled and scored a run while Trey Petersen and Wyatt Fahn also had one hit each. Tyler Petersen drove in a run with a sacrifice fly while Paulsen, Derrek Kommes and Easton Nelson had one RBI as well.
Tyler Kingery had two of the Spartans’ three stolen bases and scored one run.
