Daeges rekindles past at Roy Hobbs World Series

FORT MYERS, FL. -- Outside of a few aches and pains, Steve Daeges enjoyed every moment of his recent return to the baseball diamond as a uniformed player.
Daeges, Harlan Community’s highly-successful baseball coach of the last 22 years, took part in the 2016 Roy Hobbs World Series earlier this month in Fort Myers, Florida.
Daeges played second base, a little first base and even pitched two innings for the Omaha Indians team, which finished with a 3-4 record and advanced to the semifinals of the Legends Division (53+) A Division playoffs. The 62-year-old Cyclone coach showed he could still swing the bat, too, hitting safely in all but one game during the week of Nov. 6-12.
