Cyclones win sixth consecutive on Lyon’s goal

Going into halftime, both the HCHS boys varsity soccer team and the Creston Panthers were locked in a scoreless tie. However, only minutes into the second half, senior Ashton Lyon scored the lone goal on the night as the Cyclones won, 1-0.

“That was explosive,” said HCHS Head Soccer Coach Dave Voge. “That really just energized everybody and got everyone’s spirits up. It was nice to see Ashton come through.”

With this victory for the Cyclones, they now have six wins in a row and move their record to 10-7 on the season.

“It’s huge,” he said. “Our season didn’t start out so well. We’ve played a lot of tough teams, highly ranked teams.”

The Cyclones will get back on the field Thursday night at home as the Winterset Huskies, 4-12, roll into town for the 2A-8 First Round match.

“They’re an excellent team,” he added. “We’re here at Merrill, so hopefully that’ll give us some good luck. Our guys need to be ready to go.”
