Cyclones sweep Glenwood in doubleheader

“It’s good to come out and put the ball in play and rely on the defense to make plays.” -Teagon Kasperbauer, Junior Infielder

Coming into the game, the HCHS varsity baseball team was riding a 3-game losing streak, but that changed when junior outfielder Stephen Leinen launched a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and put his team ahead for good in game one of a doubleheader as the Cyclones cruised to a 7-3 victory over the Glenwood Rams.

“Just trying to put something out, so we can get runners on base, but it ended up being a home run, so that was really beneficial,” Leinen said. “Just trying to get a good at bat there.”

Senior Alex Monson got the ball in game one as he dominated the Rams hitters all night long by striking out eight batters.

“Alex had his pitch count up again,” said HCHS Head Baseball Coach Heath Stein. “He pitched at right about 110, but he was tough, he stayed on that bicycle and he just kept pushing and he got through the game nicely.”

In game two, junior Teagon Kasperbauer got the ball for the Cyclones. He only lasted 2.2 innings, but struck out four batters as his team was once again dominant offensively as they cruised to a 19-12 victory.

“He struggled more than he usually does tonight throwing that ball, but our approach was good, our swings were good all night and it was really fun to watch those guys at the plate,” Stein said.

Kasperbauer helped his own cause by getting two hits and driving in two runs as well during the game two victory over Glenwood.

“It’s good to come out and put the ball in play and rely on the defense to make plays,” Kasperbauer said. “We can capitalize off of it and that’s what we did today.”

With these two wins, the Cyclones will now head out on the road starting with playing the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs, 5-11.

“We got to clear our minds going into an open game and just hopefully come out and play good defense and put the ball in play,” Kasperbauer added.
