Cyclones shut down over the weekend

It was a rough weekend for the HCHS varsity baseball team as they got shutout twice losing 1-0 to the Sergeant Bluff-Laton Warriors and losing 3-0 to the Carlisle Wildcats.

In the first game, the Cyclones were unable to get on base via a hit, but sophomore outfielder Cade Sears got on board with a walk. Senior Aidan Sieperda of the Warriors pitched a complete game shutout and struck out seven Cyclone batters.

In game two, the Cyclones were able to just crank out two hits off the bats of juniors Austin Schumacher and Teagon Kasperbauer. Junior Trey Lee of the Wildcats pitched a complete game shutout.

“Offensively, we had a very, very poor performance all day long,” said HCHS Head Baseball Coach Heath Stein. “Just not getting good swings off on good pitches. That was disappointing, but it was a very good sign to see those guys throw the ball as well as they did.”

With these games behind them, the Cyclones will turn their attention to the Glenwood Rams, 7-4, who they will take on in a doubleheader as they look to get back into the win column.

“Knowing that we’re in a position now that every win is going to be pretty influential on seeding moving forward,” he said. “If we want to be where we want to be at the end of the season, these are games we need to come out and really compete in and win.”

Senior Alex Monson will start game one of the doubleheader and junior Teagon Kasperbauer will get the ball in game two. Stein emphasized the importance of his lineup getting going after a rough weekend.

“Lineup wise swinging the bat, it’d be nice if everyone would kind of,” he added. “Hopefully, the top of our lineup can kind of get that clicking at the start of the game.”
