Cyclones shrug off slow start for Homecoming win

HCHS scores final 27 points in 34-13 win over Winterset
Atlantic didn’t do us any favors by letting us score 69 points that easy [last week],” said HCHS coach Curt Bladt.

HARLAN -- Blame it on the distractions of Homecoming or the after-effects of winning by 62 the week before - Harlan Community simply didn’t look ready for prime time at the start of Friday night’s game vs. Winterset.
Fortunately for HCHS, the final two and a half quarters resembled much more closely the upgraded 2015 version of Cyclone football.
Scoring the final 27 points and outgaining the Huskies 280 yards to 67 after falling behind in the second quarter, the 7th-ranked (3-A) Cyclones improved to 5-1 overall and 2-1 in District 8 with a 34-13 win at Merrill Field.
Senior fullback Curtis Schnack scored a career-best three touchdowns, kicker Ethan Knudson made two field goals and the Cyclone defense all but shut down the Huskies after HCHS trailed 13-7 with 8:35 left in the first half.
