It didn’t take long for the ADM Tigers to put away the HCHS Cyclones softball team as they opened the game dropping an 8-spot with contributions from Kaylee Smith, who had two triples and Aleah Johnson who had a home run with six runs batted in throughout the night leading them to a 15-2 victory.
“I think the struggle right now is we are playing some really, really good teams,” said Cyclone Head Coach Tarah Devlin Lawler. “They’re state ranked and we knew going into it, it was tough competition. We just ask that the girls compete and they did well.”
The Cyclones were able to answer back on offense in the bottom of the 1st inning when Freshman Taylor Heese came up and connected for a home run that bounced off the top of the fence and went over.
“It was a huge hit,” Devlin-Lawler said of Heese’s home run. “It was exciting to watch and seeing how all the girls reacted to it, and I think it helped the girls gain more confidence that things are possible, and as long as we keep our bats going, we can get some good hits and some runs brought in.”
The Tiger offense came alive once again in the top of the 4th inning scoring another six runs. When the Cyclones came to bat in the bottom half of the inning, they were unable score, dropping the game via the mercy rule.
The Cyclones returned to action Saturday in a tournament at MVAOCOU High School, playing the 0-2 Hinton Blackhawks. Offensively, the Blackhawks are led by Ashlyn Kovarna with three hits and two runs batted in. In pitching, Kayla Sypersma has five strikeouts with a 2.76 earned average.
“We’re excited for the tournament just to get some reps and looks at the ball and kind of get us going before we start playing in the conference,” Devlin-Lawler said.
