Cyclones finish 16 strokes behind Lewis Central

The HCHS boys varsity golf team competed at the 3A Class Sectional Golf meet at Majestic Hills Golf Course in Denison on Wednesday and took home sixth place.

“I am happy with our overall performance today,” said HCHS Head Golf Coach Chad Swanson. “The back nine played pretty difficult today and that shows on our cards.”

Swanson acknowledged players on this roster that stood out throughout the day and performed strong.

“Drew Bladt and Jace Gubbels each scored very well on the front nine with a 42 and 38 respectively,” he said. “Blake Wilwerding put his best round of the season together with a solid 90. Braydon Ernst continued to be one of our more consistent scorers with a 91 and he really hit the ball well the last few weeks.”

At this point, it closes out the season for golf, but Swanson is optimistic about the future and feels his team can build off this season to be stronger next year.

“With no seniors, I feel strongly that these guys can take another step in their overall game this summer,” he added. “Next year we hope to be in the hunt at some of these big tournaments.”
