Cyclones even record at 9-9 with win over Denison

For the second game in a row, the HCHS varsity softball team came out swinging some hot bats as they cruised to another 9-8 victory, but this time over the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs.

Senior Tianna Kasperbauer got the ball to start the game for the Cyclones, gave up six runs in the first inning, but then settled in after that.

“Once Tianna got past the first inning, she battled and held them to three hits,” said HCHS Head Softball Coach Tianna Kasperbauer. “Tianna is hanging in there. She has spent many hours on that mound over the last 10 years, so there is no other place she would rather be.”

With this victory, it marks seven on the season for Kasperbauer who has 105 strikeouts this season and an earned run average of 3.32 and over 90 innings pitched.

But it wasn’t just Kasperbauer who shined as the offense got going with nine runs scored on 11 hits, including three from junior outfielder Madison Kjergaard, two of which were doubles.

“Madison is so particular about her swing and she knows when it isn’t feeling right,” she said. “She works at making the adjustment each at bat to do what she needs to do to get on base.”

With this victory, the Cyclones have won five out of their last six games and evened their overall record at 9-9. Initially, they were supposed to play the Logan-Magnolia Panthers next, but that got changed due to a scheduling conflict.

They will now play the Kuemper Catholic Knights, 9-12, on the road Thursday at 6:45. Last time they played the Knights, the Knights won 3-2.

“We have to make the adjustment right away with our bats,” she added. “They have been hitting the ball a lot better than the first time we saw them, so we are also going to have to play tough defense.”
