Cyclones beat Tigers to remain undefeated

“A lot of zeros on the board today, but we came out in that one inning hot and just kept it rolling.” -Matthew Sorfonden, Sophomore First Basemen

In the top of the seventh inning, the game was on the line for the Cyclones as the tying run for the ADM Tigers was standing on third base with two outs, but right fielder Cael Goshorn made a nice play on a line drive and the Cyclones went on to win 6-5.

“ADM is a good ball club,” said Head Baseball Coach Heath Stein. “They had a pitcher that came and we didn’t do too hot early on, but as you see with good pitching, hitting is much tougher.”

In the bottom of the sixth, the game was tied at one and first basemen Matthew Sorfonden came up and lined a two-run single into right field to put the Cyclones ahead for the first time on the night.

“I went up there trying to hit one middle away, first at bat didn’t go too hot,” Sorfonden said. “I like being in those positions. That’s what you dream about.”

With this victory, the Cyclones have won their first four games to start the season.

“I think we’ve been working really hard,” he said. “A lot of zeros on the board today, but we came out in that one inning hot and just kept it rolling.”

With this game behind them, the Cyclones next opponent will be the Bishop Heelan Crusaders, 2-5, on the road Friday night at 6 p.m.

“We know it’s going to be another ball club like tonight,” Stein added. “They’re always a quality opponent.”
