Cyclone wrestlers sixth at Riverside Invite, AHSTW 12th

 OAKLAND (Dec. 12) -- The Harlan Community wrestlers placed sixth out of 17 teams and AHSTW finished 12th at Saturday’s competitive Riverside Invitational.
 Logan-Magnolia, ranked third in Class 1A, won the tournament with 230 points, followed by Aurora (No. 3 in Nebraska Class B) with 170.5 and Creston/O-M with 164. Additional ranked 1A teams in the field included fourth-place Woodbury Central and seventh-place West Sioux.
 HCHS scored 128 points and had nine out of 11 individuals place in the top eight on the day, led by second-place wrestlers Zane Bendorf at 170 pounds and Jeremiah Davis at 220.
 Bendorf pinned his first three opponents before losing by technical fall in the finals to Atlantic/CAM’s Kadin Stutzman. Davis won a pair of hard-fought decisions, then was pinned in the first period by Clarinda’s Crew Howard.
 Luke Freund (113) and Jesse Schwery (195) both went 1-2 and placed fourth for the Cyclones while Luke Musich (126) and Matt Schwery (182) both placed fifth, combining to go 7-2 with six pins and a major decision. Dalton McKinley finished sixth at 145, going 3-2 with two pins.
 “Overall, our guys wrestled tough all day,” said HCHS head coach John Murtaugh.
 AHSTW, wrestling for the first time this season, scored 53 points to place 12th as a team with four placers.
 Hayden Fischer (132) and Garrison Gettler (160) both placed third with 3-1 records and a combined four pins. They each lost to eventual champions from Lo-Ma in the semifinals. Also placing for the Vikings were 285-pounder Jaicob Madsen (7th) and 113-pounder Eli Collins (8th).
