Cyclone pitchers fan 25 in softball sweep
GLENWOOD (June 14) -- Harlan Community softball pitchers Tianna Kasperbauer and Emily Brouse stole the show in Monday’s doubleheader sweep at Glenwood, striking out a combined 25 batters and allowing no earned runs as the Cyclones handled the Rams 10-0 and 7-1.
Kasperbauer (5-1) pitched a three-hit shutout in game one, racking up 15 strikeouts and walking none. Brouse (7-4) took the baton for game two and pitched a two-hitter with three walks and 10 Ks.
Glenwood (5-10 overall, 3-8 Hawkeye Ten) scored its only run (unearned) of the twin bill in the seventh inning of game two.
HCHS, meanwhile, put up crooked numbers in seven different frames throughout the night to score its 17 runs.
Kate Heithoff and Brouse had three singles apiece in game one, Aurora Miller and Kennedy Kjergaard both went 2-for-4 and Madison Schumacher doubled. Kjergaard scored two runs and Kasperbauer had two RBI.
The Cyclones needed just three hits to score seven runs in the night cap, taking advantage of four Glenwood errors and six hit batsmen. Schumacher went 2-for-3 with a double, Jordan Heese hit a two-run double in the first and courtesy runner Madison Kjergaard scored three times for Schumacher.
