Cyclone grapplers settle for split vs. Trojans, Monarchs

HCHS overcomes 24-0 deficit against Atlantic before losing 39-35

HARLAN -- Bonus points proved to be the difference maker Tuesday night as the Harlan Community wrestling team settled for a split of its Hawkeye Ten home double dual vs. Atlantic and Denison-Schleswig.
Atlantic (64-13) and HCHS (61-6) both posted lopsided wins over the Monarchs to start and finish the meet, but the second dual of the night was a classic, bringing a crowded Harlan Community Middle School gym to full roar as the final matches unfolded on two mats.
Trailing Atlantic 24-0 after being pinned in the first four matches, the Cyclones rallied to a 35-24 advantage, then lost the last three matches to come out on the short end of a 39-35 final score.
HCHS finished with a 6-7 record in contested matches vs. Atlantic, also earning the only forfeit of the dual for six points. The Trojans, however, outpinned the Cyclones six to three and finished with an 18-11 advantage in bonus points.
Late pins by Zac Stork and Drake Roller put Atlantic up 36-35 before 220-pounder Keagan Hosfelt held off Cyclone junior Aaron Johannsen 9-3 in the final match.
