Cyclone grapplers look to improve throughout season

HARLAN -- The Harlan Community wrestling team hit the ground running at the start of the 2016-2017 season, competing in two tournaments and hosting a double dual within an eight-day stretch of early December.
So far, the results have been positive.
Compared to a year ago, HCHS increased its point totals a significant amount at both the Dan Hill Invitational in Harlan and the Boys Town Invitational, placing sixth and fifth, respectively. Senior 170-pounder Jacob Wingert was the Cyclones’ first Dan Hill individual champion in three years while junior 182-pounder Nick Foss won the team’s fourth individual title in 13 trips to Boys Town.
HCHS also split a home double dual vs. Glenwood and St. Albert, scoring the first 28 points against the state-rated Rams before falling 46-28.
Cyclone head coach John Murtaugh entered his 14th season with a mix of highly-experienced veterans and some young/green wrestlers who are getting their first taste of varsity competition.
