Cyclone girls extend winning streak to a dozen

HCHS pulls away late, tops Glenwood 53-35

GLENWOOD -- For the Harlan Community girls basketball team, it’s a good time for a little break in the action.
Playing their sixth game in 12 days since the end of the holiday break, the top-ranked (4-A) Cyclones looked a little lethargic at times but scored the final 11 points to beat Glenwood, 53-35, on Saturday.
The upset-minded Rams pulled within seven points on Molly Dean’s three-pointer and putback early in the fourth quarter before being held scoreless over the last six minutes-plus.
Taylor Frederick started Harlan’s 11-0 finish with a spinning drive down the left side of the lane and HCHS hit 9-of-10 free throws the rest of the way.
The Cyclones improved to 12-1 overall and remained 6-0 atop the Hawkeye Ten as the game did not count in the conference standings. Glenwood, which had won six in a row prior to Friday night’s loss vs. St. Albert, slipped to 7-6 overall and stayed at 4-3 in the H-10.
HCHS will have Tuesday night off before returning to action Friday at Red Oak.
